Supplements

The secrets of good nutrition are written in the lifestyle of our ancestors. They consumed more than 100 different foods, fresh, unprocessed, and therefore, rich in vitamins and minerals. As a result, autoimmune diseases such as cancer, lupus, and multiple-sclerosis were not prevalent way back then. Today, we eat much less food and the food contains fewer nutrients. This is the result of improper soil fertilization and green-harvesting of crops (picking crops before they are allowed to ripen on the vine). For instance,

  • In 1948, a cup of spinach contained 158 mg of iron per 100 grams
  • In 1956, a cup of spinach contained 27 mg of iron per 100 grams
  • In 1998, a cup of spinach contained about 2 mg of iron per 100 grams

Today, you would have to eat over 75 cups of spinach to get the same amount of nutrition available 56 years ago. Consuming this amount of food is virtually impossible; even the 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables that are recommended by most nutritionists is outside the radar screen of most individuals. Who has the time or the capacity to consume that amount of food? No one.

The good news is that missing food nutrients can be provided through dietary supplementation. In fact, individuals with health challenges have a greater need for certain nutrients than the normal requirements for healthy individuals; therefore, use of supplementation is even more important for these people.

Since our cells require food for survival, our dietary supplements should be made of food. Food supplements are classified as “nutraceuticals”. In order to be called a nutraceutical, the product must be a food and it must be non-toxic. This means that the product will not harm the body or have any negative interactions with medications that you may currently be taking.

Omnipotent Health offers nutraceutical supplements.
